Diana & Brent | Wedding in Kaarli Church in Tallinn and Restaurant PAAT

Brent and I met, like so many other couples, at University. The two of us, both wanna-be lawyers, found our way to the student organization ELSA - European Law Students' Association. Back then, Brent belonged to the organization's leadership team, and they were currently looking for a new person to take over his mantle. My friend talked me into applying, and I got a choice between two roles, and from there, as luck would have it, I was to become Brent’s successor.

Time went on, summer was nearing its end, and as all the others were beginning to settle into their new roles, Brent still hadn’t handed over his reigns to me. So one night, I just decided to text him, already feeling quite annoyed by then, asking if he was ever intending to send me the usernames, passwords, and all the other necessary information that I could start working. Here I’ll mention that, until then, we had only briefly exchanged a few words. And to be honest, we hadn’t really caught each others’ eye.

And to be honest, we hadn’t really caught each others’ eye...

But ever since that evening, we continued to text each other day and night. Neither of us truly knows what it was, but we just clicked, and a few days later, feeling tired of just typing on the internet, Brent invited me to the cinema. Looking back and discussing it together, we have realized that neither of us registered it as a date, but we just looked at it as hanging out together. And of course, as we all know, the cinema is a terrible place for a first date - you can’t have a conversation during the movie.

What happened, though, was that this turned out to be the best first date ever for both of us - we just talked and joked through the entire time (our sincere apologies to anyone who had eaactually come there to see the film!). Somehow we lost all sense of the rest of the world and after that evening one thing was certain: we definitely wanted to spend more time together. Then followed real dates and it didn’t take long until we were officially a couple.

Laziness is a driving force, as Brent loves to say. Turns out, it occasionally applies in matters of the heart as well: had Brent been bothered to give me all the information on time, we might have never started talking like this.

Neither of us believes that a person’s fate is set in stone but that we each make our own choices in life that take us down certain paths. But I still find it very special that life has brought us together this way - I think only a few people get this lucky in life to meet someone so much like them and with such similar views.
