Cäroly & Sven | A Fun Estonian Wedding in Muhumaa
“We met for the first time on Valentine’s Day in 2015, just like in a romantic story. However, Valentine’s Day isn’t the “coolest” holiday for single people, which is why bitterness and loneliness became the premise of the meeting. Cäroly had gone out with her choir friends and a brighter ray of hope, while I had left home only with a bottle of whiskey and thoughts of a lost chess match.” Sven

"Our meeting place happened to be the bar Möku, where I had been killing time for a few hours. Cäroly and her choir came there as the “last” place, to close the night. Möku is located in the basement, so to enter, one has to step down stairs that are only illuminated by street lamps. Cäroly and her friends came down the stairs so that the light from the street only landed on her face. It was like a stage play, where the light is directed at the lovers’ faces only to draw attention to their gazes meeting. This is exactly what happened to us - at the same instant the girl covered in street light caught my attention, she met my eyes." Sven
"I had previously told my choir friends that I really like men who look like vikings. The moment I entered the bar my eyes were met by a young man who looked exactly like one. " Cäroly
"This instantaneous contact touched both of our souls and without any doubt I asked Cäroly to dance with me. The process seemed momentary to Cäroly as well - as she has said - one moment she saw me and the next heard an invitation to dance." Sven
"I was speechless for about 5 minutes because I couldn’t believe that this handsome man had just asked me to dance!" Cäroly
"My “Impressive” dance moves convinced Cäroly to go to Zavood with me. There I was intrigued when Cäroly told me she studies (art)history. I excitedly talked about Duchamp’s “Fountain” and the artistic value of the show “Beavis and Butthead”. There may have been more tempting topics to discuss but the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable just the way it was.” Sven
"Sven and I talked for an hour until we got hungry. The best place in Tartu to cure hunger at 4 in the morning is undoubtedly Metro.. In the line at Metro Sven asked me to add him on Facebook. For some reason I forgot to do it and soon after we parted ways." Cäroly
"Although exchanging contact info failed because Cäroly didn’t save her number on my phone, my memory did not and a week later I asked her on our first proper date. From there one thing led to another and now we are happily married." Sven
